My parents had the 3 strikes rule, you had 3 chances to mess up and we only had to leave a place once and lo and behold it was a theme park. So we knew my parent's were kidding around when they said act right.

Before we'd go into a grocery store or a store in general my mother always said, "Don't ask for anything. If you do ask, be prepared to be told no". If we acted up we got the, "That's it we're going out to the car." After getting your butt busted in a grocery store parking lot in front of people, you tend to act right when you know you're going someplace.
