Re: My LO is a genius!

Aww, how cute! It's so much fun when they start communicating. My oldest dd made up a sign for Grandma. It was putting a finger in the palm of her hand because that's the way my mom did "mark it with a b" when she did Pat-A-Cake, but I always do the mark it with a b by poking the baby's nose. We figured out she was doing this sign for Grandma a couple of weeks after her first birthday, and realized when looking back at the proofs from her one year portraits that she had been doing it during the photography session too (my mom had come along to help), as one picture showed her looking off in the direction my mom was standing while making the sign. She used the sign every time she saw my mom or anyone mentioned her until she could say a word for Grandma at about 16 months, then for a while she used both the word and the sign. It was really sweet! She also started asking for her sometimes when Grandma wasn't around. I think the way kids pick up language is really amazing.
