Question Bedroom question

For those that have more than 1 kid, what is the bedroom situation? Like who has the biggest room? (not counting the master, unless you gave it up to the kids) The smallest room? Why did you go that route? If they're sharing a room, when are you planning on separating them?

Right now, we live in a 3 bedroom house. Besides the master, Lucas and Joey are sharing the larger bedroom. Annabelle is in the smaller. We were looking at houses over the weekend (we're wanting to build and hoping to start the paperwork this fall)

We've come across one that we really like. And always seem to come back to this house. It's a 4 bedroom but has an option for a 5th. After sitting down and really looking at floor plan measurements. We noticed (besides the master) 2 of the rooms are big while the 3rd is noticeable smaller. This got into the discussion who would get what room and why.

So far the idea is simple. The plan is for the boys to share until they decide they don't want to, they get the large room w/the walk in closet. Annabelle gets a large room w/out a walk in closet b/c it's the room closest to us. 4th bed will be used as a guest/spare bedroom. Unless we move in, and the boys don't want to share anymore. Then Annabelle gets a large room, Joey gets a large room, and Lucas gets the smallest. In my family, the oldest always got the smallest.

I was just curious in how other families do it.

Re: Bedroom question

we have a 3 bedroom house, both kids have there own room, the rooms are pretty much the same size, Hunter has the bigger closet but that is becuase he wasn't even a twinkle in our eye when we moved in and that room was used for storage LOL. if we have another kid that kid will share with whichever one is the same sex as the new kid.

Re: Bedroom question

When we picked our house we picked the floorplan because the bedrooms are HUGE!
But the kitchen and living room arent great... lol

our bedroom is huge, the guest bedroom is pretty big. The girl's bedrooms are pretty big...maybe becca's is wider and sam's is longer...? but they are almost even in size.

we could have had a tall foyer that would have made sam's room much smaller but we wanted the kids to have the same size of room.

Re: Bedroom question

the decision josh and i came up with is that billy (since he is older) gets to pick his room first. that is how his parents did it with him and his bro and they were consistant with it soooo, that is what he wants to do. we will try when we buy a house to make the rooms as close in size as possible but that may not happen.

Re: Bedroom question

Right now, we have a 3 bedrm. Lily's room is bigger b/c Amaya wanted the tinkerbell room (is was already decorated when we moved in). Lily's room already has the crib & a twin in there, so I plan to put the baby (boy) in there after a few mos of being in our room while I bf him. I plan to leave him with Lily, as long as neither is disturbed at night. Or I may switch Amaya into the room to share with Lil. We do plan on buying a bigger house in about 4-5 yrs. I don't know if we will get a 4 bedrm, if it's a 3 bedrm, I plan to have the girls share the largest room, be it a master, or whatever. Yea, I sound sooo decisive, lol.

Re: Bedroom question

We've discussed this numerous times and Darrell is adament that the oldest gets the biggest room. To me, I said Sarah, but he feels strongly about it. I guess because he is the middle child.

Re: Bedroom question

I live in a two bedroom apartment. The kids share a room... even then, they don't sleep in it. It's more or less just a play room. When they sleep... because I sleep on the couch down here.. I bought them each their own little couch bed thingie... little ones, and they sleep on them down here.

Re: Bedroom question

See the 2 bigger rooms are the same size or about, not noticeably different. It's the 3rd that's quite a bit smaller. We're just not sure who to short chage. We thought about trying to stretch the 3rd room out but can't b/c of it's location.

I've been pretty set that I never wanted my kids to share a room. I'm the middle child and had to share until I was 17 yrs old (my older sis moved out) The boys are sharing b/c they have to.

Re: Bedroom question

Jack and Alexis share a room. Amy shares a room with me. It's going to be that way for a long time. Amy and Alexis used to share a room, they don't get along well at all. Jack slept with me till he was about 5 since his bed never got used Amy started sleeping in it so she could get some space from Alexis. I asked Jack if he wanted to start sleeping in Amy's bed so they switched. Now everybody is happy. My heat bill is high enough i don't need more rooms to heat. I shared a room till i was 15. My sister and i would fight over who had to take the smaller room since neither of us would agree we had to share. My sister ran away from home when she was 17 for about a week. That morning i moved her stuff to the smaller room I won the bigger room.

Re: Bedroom question

Abby has her own room. The boys share a room. We have a 4th bedroom that is smaller and is currently the office/guest room. If and when the boys decide that they want their own room, the one that wants it (usually the older one) gets the choice of staying where they are (ie sharing) or moving to the smaller one. I am guessing this will happen around 10-13 years old.

Re: Bedroom question

We have a 4 bedroom house.
Girls share 1 room together (since Charlie was born), in 2 twin beds. They LOVE it.
Charlie is in the nursery which is smaller.
The 4th bedroom is another tv room/computer room/more toys room/and treadmill room w/a futon in it so that's where guests can sleep too. It's HUGE & over the garage w/a teeny closet that would NOT make a good real bedroom...it's more like a nice huge bonus room.
In our next house (whenever & wherever that may be!!) We will get 5 bedrooms PLUS a basement & the girls will get their own rooms & share a bath. Charlie will get his own room & own bath.

Re: Bedroom question

My situation is different because of the age gap between my kids and that they're different genders. Courtney has the bigger better room because 1) she's the oldest and 2) she's a girl. Matthew has no need and probably won't for a big walk in closet. His closet is plenty big. I always thought that oldest and girl hold equal weight. I would give Joey the smaller room, but that's just my opinion

Re: Bedroom question

We have a 4 bedroom house. When we moved here, Jordyn was not even born, so Jimmy got the biggest bedroom. If we had moved in today, I probably would have let Jordyn have the bigger bedroom because she is a girl & I think they need more space.

Re: Bedroom question

One thing I didn't say about the smallest room. It's on the opposite side of the house....kind of. It sits next to ours but the way it's set up, you have to go around the stairwell. I'd rather have the 2 youngest closest to us.

We still have plenty of time to decide. We haven't even put the hosue on the market yet. Nor are we 100% set on this house.
