    Maddy's IEP

We had her IEP yesterday for speech. Yes she does qualify for speech therapy through our school district It is really hard hearing that your child will be considered "special education" though!! After she turns 3 in April, she will start going to speech twice a week at the same school Hanna goes to. She didn't qualify for Early Childhood though, but I am planning on sending her to Pre-K next Jan.

Glad she will be getting some help on her speech. I'm sure they'll do a great job to help her along. I know what you mean about the special education though. They've used the term with Braeden too for his physical therapy and speech and it is hard to hear. But by the time they start kindergarten, I'm sure they'll be caught up with other kids their age.

I now it's heard to hear "special ed" but, Erik has been doing speech therapy since he was 4 and I think it's somewhat common. He still pulled out of regular Kindergarten class to do speech. Actually, there are three other kids in his class alone that do speech as well. It really does help!

Glad to hear she will be getting the help she needs. I'm sure she'll do great!

My middle guy, Ian, is in special ed as well. It was hard on me at first, but I just have to remember how different special ed is now than when I was a child. It's totally different!! Ian started preschool in January and has already grown and changed a lot. We're thrilled with his progress so far.

Erin will start special ed preschool on April 9th. She will get speech therapy 2x a week in her classroom. I know how you feel about the term, though. I'm just trying to be postive and hope that if we all get them help early it will make a big difference in their future. Good luck!

    Re: Maddy's IEP

Glad she can get the services! It's beginning to seem so common for kids to get these early services. My sister gets OT and PT through the school district, and the therapists have just almost become a part of the family for them. I hope it works out well for her!

Michelle: Glad to know that Maddy qualified. My friends who have had children enrolled in similar programs see progress after just a few months, and the kids love going. You're a good mom for sending her!
