Okay, I had an idea I personally thought it was so good, it kept me from sleeping. Bleh...
Anyways.. For those of us struggling to find good delicious food ideas to help with weight loss with out a whole bunch of sacrifice in flavor. Or yummy alternatives to the bad things we love. I'll start if you're confused. Okay.. Who loves popcorn? I know I do, So I found Quaker Rice cakes has a "buttered popcorn flavor" and I tried it and it's actually really friggin' good! I'll eat 1 or 2 during movies at home. Problem solved. You like deli-styled sandwiches? I found this lemon pepper chicken. Deli styled thin sliced. Land O Frost is the brand/Taste escapes, and lemon pepper chicken is the flavor. A serving size is 6 slices. calorie count is low (but it is deli meat so it's higher in sodium). This is what kind of sandwich I make with it. (Get it in the deli meat section of your grocer, sometimes it's hard to find it, Albertsons has it, usually...) Whole wheat bread. (Orowheat) 2 slices of cheddar or provolone cheese, a little lettuce, and Franks hot sauce. I start by toasting the bread in a toaster oven, just about 1 1/2 minutes. I then put my 6 slices of chicken on, and the hot sauce, and then the 2 slices of cheese, pop it back in the toaster oven (on light) for 2 1/2 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Take it out, put my lettuce on it and add a pinch of pepper (sometimes salt, but it's not needed, I just love salt), and there you go got yourself a yum yum sandwich for lunch, and it's quick to make. It just sounds like alot, but once you make it a few times, it becomes second nature. lol I also want to say. PORTION CONTROL is key! How about that sweet tooth? Everyone knows this. Grab a piece of fruit, bananas, watermelon, apples, oranges, a handfull of cherries or grapes, a couple of strawberries, blah blah blah. If you want to try other fruits go to your gourmet grocer or a farmers market, they got exotics like star fruit (to me taste like some kind of melon), or prickly pear (cactus fruit, it's very sweet and good) or other kinds of fruit you can't pronounce. Also at farmers market, they will usually let you try some first, how cool is that? If you don't like it don't buy it. (Also, buying a few exotic pieces of fruit would be fun to eat and share with a kid, they would think it would be fun trying "exotic fruits" it would be easier for a kid to try then having a meat taste testing. lol if they don't like the fruit, hey least you got them to try something new in a fun way.) Want ice cream or some yummy frozen treat? Hagaan Daas has Chocolate Sorbet. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this, it is FULL of flavor! Yum yum. I also love their Lemon Sorbet! They also have a Peach Orchard and that is so good I can't even describe it other then orgasmic, and I'm not a huge fan of peach flavored things. They also have lots of sorbet choices to choose from. I promise! BUT GET THE SORBET!!! What yummy food secrets do you have/know about? |

Re: Yummy food tips...
thanks for the tips.
I do one thing that cuts down on some fat and calories from popcorn, I air pop it in the microwave then I spray it with the butter flavored non stick spray and sprinkle it with salt, oh so yummy and the spray is fat free.

Re: Yummy food tips...
How do you air pop popcorn in the microwave? You mean in the bags or is there a special doo-hickey of some kind that you can pop popcorn in? Sorry if dumb question!!! I've just decided to cut out microwave popcorn from our diets around here...I learned that it was discovered that people who work in the factories that make it were getting a form of lung cancer from breathing the fumes from fake butter!!! Skeeeery!!!
And sorry I got off topic!! I used to be really good at figuring low-fat and calorie alternatives to regular food. These days I go for food quality instead. But one thing that I've stuck with is fake meat. Like veggie burger patties and tofu dogs and tofurkey slices. The stuff is usually very low in fat and calories but they make it taste pretty yummy these days and there is a huge variety to choose from. Salsa is a good source of flavor. I put it on baked potatoes and I even dip my air-popped popcorn in it!! It's really good on a lot of things. Stir-fry is my favorite thing lately. I get these frozen stir-fry veggies from Trader Joes, just use a little sesame oil and some soy sauce to fry it in, and add some chunks of baked tofu. Eat it over brown rice. It's really delicious and good for you.
