Breastfeeding supplies?

Not sure if there are many still around here but I have a question. I want to try really hard to bf this little one. I tried with Isaiah but failed Anyway I was wondering what kind of cover you use to cover yourself out in public when you feed your lo? I talked to my mom about it (she also didnt bf either of her kids) but she saw someone who used a sling type thing and was told that she can wash the dishes with her baby feeding! Im not sure what to look for either way!

So what kind of cover do you use? Do you use something at home? Have you ever tried a sling and if so how did it work?

Thanks!

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

I never used a cover. Now, I've kinda cut him out of his on demand feedings and give him milk instead for when we are out and about. I have a mei tai and they say it's possible to nurse in it, but I never could figure it out. Maybe it's b/c my bazongas are too big? I think they say that a ring sling and another one like that are good for nursing in. They also have these things to cover up while you nurse. It's like a short apron.

Bebe au Lait & Hooter Hiders - Nursing Covers for Chic Mothers

They sell them at Walmart and Target, I think.

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

I always used a blanket with mine. It worked fine. That is, until they were old enough to yank the blanket away. Let's just say I now have cat-like reflexes!

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

Walmart.com: The First Years - Nursing Privacy Wrap, Scroll Print: Feeding is the cheapest on wm, but has bad reviews. There are others though.

Walmart.com: NursEase Organic Cotton Nursing Shawl, Paisley: Feeding This one looks better and has better reviews

Nursing Covers : Feeding : Baby : Target Whole smorgasboard from Target!

Definitely get yourself a nursing bra and a boppy! They both made it possible for me! I still don't really go anywhere without my boppy. I take it shopping and just shove it in the stroller!

FYI- I would have edited my post, but my button is gone b/c I ad blocked it

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

Thanks Jen for all the links The Target ones look alot like what a friend of mine has (I havent been able to talk to her about it yet though). Walmart is not really in the area... blah!

I will have to do some more checking on those. Since we go to church and what not I want to be able to feed her wherever its necessary, but still stay covered. I thought about a blanket but was worried about the baby moving and blanket falling off (tried it for a short time with Isaiah at home and that darn blanket always fell off.... I didnt have those cat-like reflexes either ). I appreciate the quick responses though! Hopefully in a few months I will be living in this forum and you all will be quite sick of me!

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

All my kids hated being covered with a blanket while nursing, and I found it impossible to latch them on while under a blanket when they were tiny, so those early weeks I would just excuse myself and find a private area. Once they learned to latch on with no help I just nursed where ever and just made sure I had my Boob brand shirt (great nursing wear company) on. I usually wore the Boob Tank under a nice button shirt that way I just had to undo a few buttons, lift a little bit of the tank cover up and everything was completely covered. And then when they want to nurse and pop off to see what is going on I tried to not nurse in public that much, because they would start nursing then suddenly if they heard something..pop off and there you are with your breast exposed! Ha Ha, Glad that stage is over!

I second the Boppy, used it with all 3 kids. I was never able to nurse with a sling on, I am just too big chested and it was so uncomfortable for me.

Here is the website of the company that I think makes the best, most stylish nursing wear. Boob®

Just wanted to add--that I never covered up at home, I was always discreet, but never tried to "hide" my nursing, my kids, DH, friends, in-laws have all seen me nurse..I don't care.

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

Hey there! I'm a BF machine right now so I figured I'd chime in. I have a cute turquoise shawl/scarf thing that I got at Target and I use it to cover up when NIP. It's lightweight and looks cute if I just want to wear it as a scarf when not nursing. It's always in my diaper bag. For hands free nursing at home I recommend the Moby Wrap. Moby Wrap, Inc. Lucy loves it when I wear her around the house and it's pretty cheap and comfortable. Good luck BF!

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

I use a blanket-just a light swaddling blanket. I tuck the top under my bra strap on the opposite side I'm nursing on, and just let it lie across me. You can't see anything, and it says in place. I used it when I had to nurse in the dr's office while I was waiting on dh to get done with his vasectomy. At home, I don't cover up unless there are friends over. No reason to hide it-it's natural, and I nursed bryanna too. I don't use a boppy or anything, but I did with Bry, and it does help.

As for using a sling to nurse-I haven't tried it. I have a sling, but Cooper hates it, so I want to try to find a different one. If I'm out in public like in a mall or something, I'll usually just go in a dressing room to nurse.

Get lanolin for your nipples, too. Nurse on demand-don't worry with a schedule the first few weeks. Drink TONS of water-tons and tons and tons!! Good luck!!

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

I tried to use a receiving blanket in the beginning and I could never quite get the hang of it so I said forget it and didn't bother with covering up. Nothing shows anyways and I would pull my shirt down to cover any little bit of skin showing on the top of my boob.

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

When at home I only use my boppy pillows..yes I have multiple...one in each room I nurse in. When we go out and Greyson decides he needs to eat then i use my wrap I got from Target.
The First Years Breast Feed Nursing Wrap : Target
It's okay to use but sometimes when he wiggles alot it is difficult to keep him covered. I also make sure I have a nursing bra on when we go out and a comfortable shirt that is big enough to cover me still when I have to fed him.

Re: Breastfeeding supplies?

i have always just used blanket when out in public, but didn't nurse to often in public. If i was out shopping i would just find a fitting room and sit in there, less distractions.

i have never worn my kids to nurse them.

i have always thought these were cute....https://www.uddercovers.com/index1.php
promo code to look at stuff....family.....
they have a special right now by using that promo code to get any of the $32.00 ones for free. if i was out in public more i would probably get something like this.
