I am teaching my DD Kindergarten and we are doing an apple unit. We did an apple taste testing and that was fun. But I was wondering if anyone has done anything their kids just loved!!!
Any neat ideas would be appreciated!!! |

Re: any neat ideas for an apple unit??
I have a couple of ideas... maybe counting the seeds (math), comparing the skins (science) and graphing the commonalities or characteristics of different kinds of apples (math, science), reading Johnny Appleseed and other apple stories (reading), making applesauce or other apple recipes (math, science), making a paint picture using the sliced apples as a stamp (art), trip to an orchard if one is near you (social studies - field trip!)... that is all I can think of for a kindergarten student. Hope one of these will be useful! Good luck - it sounds like fun - I wish I were doing an apple unit now!

Re: any neat ideas for an apple unit??
I read something on another homeschooling site about apple units. They suggested buying several types of apples, and then tasting them to discuss their appearances, which ones were sweeter, softer, etc. You could also make up a graph for the results.
Sort them by size, or smallest to largest etc. Estimate, and count the seeds of an apple http://www.atozteacherstuff.com/Themes/Apples/ Something else I remembered from reading something to dd was to cut an apple in half horizontally, and you'll see a start in the middle of the apple. I think we are goint to have to do an apple unit too!
