Re: WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE ON STARTING TO HOMESCHOOL
I'm doing pre-school so I don't know how much help I'll be but I find I have to be prepared for the day and have a plan or we're all over the place and no learning gets done. When she gets frustrated we take a little 5 minute break and come back to it.

Re: WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE ON STARTING TO HOMESCHOOL
I posted this on the other thread but I figured I'd post here as well. Here is a link to one of the most helpful websites about Homeschooling I have found. (I actually stumbled across it when I wasn doing a paper for one of my internet college classese.)
This site can help you figure out which study guide is best for you and your children. A to Z Homeschooling I used it alot to find new material/tools for homeschooling my 2 year old. He's very much into learning his letters and trying to read. We have no set structure persay. He does 3. 20 min sections a day for the "sit down at the computer/kitchen table to learn his letters, number, colours, etc. We always use the Starfall website to help with learning pre-k stuff. He loves it and it really grabs his attention early in the mornng. And then I bought some of the Sesame Street readers and puzzles books. They are write/wipe off pads that help to teach letters, numbers, basic reading & Math, etc. They have come in really handy because he loves to draw and colour, then when he is done, I just take a wetwipe and wash it off for the next morning. I hope this has helped out some. Thanks,

Re: WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE ON STARTING TO HOMESCHOOL
I'm not real hot on Abeka, I think it's okay. A lot of workbook/worksheet based material. BUT I think it does a good job of wrapping God's word around the entire curriculum. With you potentially teaching 5 children you may really needs this type of program though...
I have a 3rd grader & Kindergartner currently... I've never used any formal program for pre-k or k I just compile my own materials and tailor it to my child's interest. My main focus during this time is reading (Teaching Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons), telling time, concepts of money, handwriting, & basic math concepts. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Sonlight (www.sonlight.com)! I've used it with my oldest since 1st grade. Here again brings God's word into History, Science, etc. Heavy on the literature side though so you would really need a child who enjoys reading but check out their website and there is an area 27 reason not to buy Sonlight (http://www.sonlight.com/articles.html) and that should give you a pretty good idea about this curriculum. Lesson plans are done for you and you have the option of a 4 or 5day plan. I'm real pleased with the level my 3rd grader is at with using this program she has really thrived with it and far surpasses where a public school 3rd grader would be. We use Saxon for math. Here again really love the program and it makes it easy to teach. You also always have the option here of skipping levels to make it more challenging for your kiddos. Hope this helps!

Re: WOULD LIKE SOME ADVICE ON STARTING TO HOMESCHOOL
I've heard good things about Alpha Omega too but I've never really looked into it. GL with whatever you decide, homeschooling is definitely worth the effort!!
