Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

I LOVE this method and try to follow the concepts- anyone else a fan? It's a bit difficult as it involves the community so much and there are a few people (ha) that frown on homeschooling and formal education for 1 year olds in the groups I know. However, I have found many ways around this and love getting my son involved (and he just loves it!). I'd like to meet others that are Reggio fans and find out what you've done in your homeschooling curriculum to follow the concepts.

Re: Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

Here's a link for your Stephanie, it kind of explains the history of Reggio Emilia Method and gives a brief overview on what it entails. There are also a bunch of reference links at the bottom to other articles and such.

Re: Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

While I'm not using this particular method exclusively, I do believe that a child learns best by incorporating their education into the happenings of their day to day life or vise versa. Everything we do can be turned into a "lesson" and along with traditional "book learning" the children will get a complete and well-rounded education.

Eglyntine and Stephanie, we're like three peas in a pod here. We all have so much in common!

I just have to say also that I'm so glad to see all of the posts lately in the homeschooling forum, it's exciting to read about other's experiences.

Thanks for posting the link, Eglyntine!

Re: Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

We don't homeschool and if we stay here we probably will not. But we have Logan on a waiting list for a program at an elementary school 2 towns over. It's like a charter school within an existing elementary school (so it's free!!)

They basically combine homeschooling with Reggio Emilia and go from there. It's very similar in style to Logan's preschool - very hands on, student focused, with lots of individualized attention. It was actually started by some parents who had kids in a preschool that Logan's teacher ran a few years ago. They didn't want to send their kids to a typical public school after such a wonderful preschool.

Re: Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

Well although I haven't heard of this before, I can pretty much say we do a lot of what this method is about. Everything is a lesson. I try to make it as natural as possible, nothing forced.

Re: Any Reggio Emilia Fans?

Courney, that's awesome that you found a school like that in the US! I would LOVE to hear what you think once school starts- post back if you think of it, or PM me-- I'm really interested to hear.
