If a person has it in writing, from a time when they are of sound mind, that they want to commit suicide due to illness, quality of life, or age then yes, it should be legal. We put our pets out of misery when there is nothing to do to help them, but refuse to do the same for those who want it.

Watching my MOM slowly waste away and knowing she wanted to go in a more humane way with her dignity, YES, YES, YES

It broke my heart that we couldn't help her

Initially when this came up for a vote here in Washington State I was appalled at the thought. However after hearing about so many people who had to watch their parents suffer and such I don't think I would have an issue with it being okayed. As Stacey said, if they make that decision when they are of sound mind and under what circumstances. We fully allow for a dnr why make them suffer into death before letting them go. I don't know really IF I were put in that position how I would feel, but who am I to say one has to suffer into death.

Who is to say someone is of sound mind when they make a decision? If they are judged not to be of sound mindm does that mean they are automatically denied?
