Hypoallergenic Pet (genetically altered)
![]() The cat allergen is a potent protein secreted by the cat’s skin and salivary glands. ALLERCA has focused on naturally occurring genetic divergences (GD) already present in cats that do no harm to the cats in any way. The resulting ALLERCA GD hypoallergenic cats will now improve the health and quality of life for millions of cat-allergy sufferers. While some breeds of cats have been promoted as having less allergen than others, scientists that have tested this hypothesis have shown that all cats, regardless of breed, produce allergens. The ALLERCA GD cat is the only scientifically-proven cat that helps those individuals with feline allergies and was developed using proprietary methods under ALLERCA's pending patents. The first breed of the ALLERCA GD hypoallergenic cat is friendly, playful and affectionate. The ALLERCA GD cats come in all coat colors and patterns. The coat is medium-long with low maintenance and minimal shedding. ![]() Recent ALLERCA GD kittens (age 3 weeks). These particular kittens are already reserved and will be delivered to ALLERCA customers. ALLERCA GD cats are medium sized cats averaging between ten and fifteen pounds (4 to 8 kg). They are fully mature at approximately three years of age and have a long life expectancy. Other popular breeds will follow soon, so please take our quick survey and help us to decide future breeds of hypoallergenic cat. Would you buy one for over $3000? |

Re: Hypoallergenic Pet (genetically altered)
Hell no I wouldn't buy one. There are MILLIONS of cats being euthanized in this country because there aren't enough homes. There's no way I would ever pay that kind of money for a cat when I can go to the SPCA and rescue one who would otherwise die. I am not about to support the breeding of any cat or dog as long as there are so many being born just to end up in a county shelter, their lives being ended because no one had room in their hearts or homes for them.
I honestly don't know what I think about someone who does love animals but is allergic and desperately wants one. I'm not in that position. I would hope that the mere cost alone would prevent someone from throwing the cat away like people tend to do in this world, but who knows? There are hundreds, if not more, pure breed rescues for dogs because someone will buy a $1000 AKC registered whatever and then when he's fully grown and digging holes in the yard, they decide he's just not worth it and they take him to the pound. Pet overpopulation is one area I am very passionate about. |

No.. I don't see how it is worth spending that much money on buying an animal... there are people dying of starvation and diseases that need that money for real reasons... not just so they can have a pet.

Re: Hypoallergenic Pet (genetically altered)
I thought there was a shot you get if you are allergic to cats. I am allergic but I have no will to get a cat. We have a dog and tried to rescue another one but our current dog wasn't having it.

Stupid... I saw this on TV, it made me wanna throw up in my mouth.
If your allergic, do something about it, either treating your allergy or not having the pet your allergic to. I agree, there are way to many homeless pets out there, for someone to start genetically mutate a new breed of pets. |

Re: Hypoallergenic Pet (genetically altered)
I think they're a great idea and that, like everything else, the price will drop as they become more readily available. As someone who had a childhood allergy to cats, I can definitely relate to those who suffer and yet still love cats.

Re: Hypoallergenic Pet (genetically altered)
[The cat allergen is a potent protein secreted by the cat’s skin and salivary glands.]
Proteins in our (or the cat's) body are put there for a reason...usually to protect the body or to make a process function (or function better). I am wondering what the alteration may be depriving the cat of... If it's something necessary, I think it's wrong. If it's something not necessary (less likely, but perhaps it's a holdout from ages and ages ago - something that helped in its defense in the wild...) - then I guess I'd have an easier time of it. But I've never had to deal with cat allergies. I'm sure there's a market for it... |

In 2003, 4,823 animals were euthanized by the Sacramento SPCA. So far this year, 7,635 animals have been euthanized by the Sacramento County Animal Shelter. There is no way that money should be being spent on breeding even MORE cats so that these numbers will increase every year. |

Just to clarify, Teresa, I am not suggesting you would be an irresponsible pet owner.
