Cute or not cute?
Personally, I don't find this cute in any way, shape or form. Personally I find it disgusting and quite sad.

I couldn't even watch but a few seconds of it. I do not think it's cute, either. Why can't kids just be kids instead of doing things like this. obviously she is encouraged by the parents. I don't like "botty dancing" as I call it and never have. My sister would do that stuff when she was little and I would always get onto her and make her stop. I don't find it cute for a little child to be "botty dancing".

Okay, bad song choice. However (and I'm not backing that particular dance up), I've noticed children, including Tony and my niece and nephew will dance with their butts shaking unprovoked and without copying anyone. It's like a natural thing to them. I don't dance in front of Tony, I've never had a reason to, sure we headbang in the car but that's different.

Sorry guys but I used to dance like that when I was little and I'm sure my daughter will dance like that too. It's harmless if it's just at home with family..BUT I would never post it online. That's the part I disagree with.

The sad thing is it is most likely her parents. My sil has taught her 3 year old daughter to do the shaking butt thing, and niece shook her butt right in front of my dh; her uncle. The little girl saw nothing wrong with shaking her stuff in front of a grown man. Which is sad because what if that wasn't her uncle that she did that do and some man took advantage of her.

I talked to my SIL and she said it was just a cute routine she learned in dance and saw nothing wrong with it. Needless to say it made us very uncomfortable.

The girl has talent. What bothers me more is where she is learning these moves. Not so much that she is being encouraged to dance, but that she is either watching things like MTV to learn how to dance like that, or being taught.

Booty shaking is definitely a normal kid thing, but that goes beyond kid-dancing. Those are moves that she's been taught or learned from watching videos. In a couple of spots, you can see her trying to do the right shake/tilt, etc. Her parents should be ashamed.

ITA if at home just goofing off with family, sure no harm... BUT NO WAY would I post this on the internet so some freak could watch my kid!!! Alright I shook my butt to Paula Abdul as a kid, all around my living room. I will still shake my booty at the club if I'm dancing, it's the only asset I have. Anyway I don't think it is as bad as some people are making it out to be but they could have chosen a better song, it's probably what the parents listen to. I would rather parents be teaching their kids booty dancing than making their 2 year olds smoke pot. Remember those parents? I don't think I will make Julia shake her butt but it is cute when kids start dancing out of no where.

I find myself cringing when she grabs her butt, crotch, and 'breasts', but I have to examine where that reaction is coming from. Part of it is visceral; that little girl can't be responsible for the reactions some people will have to what she's doing nor can she consent to allowing it, so it's wrong to display her doing it to millions of strangers. Part of it is societal; a society should probably be a little bit disturbed on some level by a person of that age displaying that sort of knowledge. But that's the interesting thing: As soon as I realize that she's not displaying knowledge, but purely imitating what she's seen, I feel more comfortable on that visceral level. Every culture and every generation has it's expression, and in America it's been pretty usual in recent generations that each expression is somewhat offensive to the last. It's part of our culture to disapprove, and when we do so long enough we find ourselves coming around and disapproving of what we approved of last time around. At some point we will evolve as a society, hopefully (and I think probably) soon, to where we realize that disapproval is really a waste of time. If something is wrong it will be judged as such and the appropriate consequences allowed to ensue, and if it's right it will bring it's own reward. We'll move on from disapproval to allowance, in which we compromise and agree to disagree (which very often opens an opportunity for further dialogue in a different direction, which helps to solve a lot of problems). We don't have to tolerate because it's not ours to judge; we're involved in our own lives and the lives of our families, friends, and neighbors to whatever degree is appropriate. We don't have to accept; it's not our business if it doesn't affect us in a reasonably direct way, and if it is our business we're expected to make our feelings known. If we don't that's our own fault. We just allow what we're able, and what we can't allow we express, civilly and rationally (along the lines of say, "Say What?" at that Yada board ). The girl does have some moves; I'll give her that.
