A little playing around
I took this picture at my moms, of a tree she'd bought. It had some pretty flowers on it, so I thought I'd play. I took a piece of paper, blocking the flash and bouncing it off "ceiling" effect

bouncing your flash...well i can't do it because you have to have an external flash that attaches to your camera to truly do it. bree kinda diffused her flash with the tape. but bouncing the flash means you turn your external flash to the side or straight up, and when you take your picture, the flash fires, the light from it hits a wall or ceiling, and the light "bounes" off the wall/celing and then hits your subject. It's a nice way of adding light to dim rooms, but avoiding the washed out/pin prick light in eyes look that comes from a direct flash.
