Shaving Question - Yada, Yada, Yada

Do any of your tween girls shave yet?

I am asking because my step-daughters Mom just called here saying that my step-daughter who is 11 needs to shave her armpits.

This is a girl who you have to remind to shower, brush her teeth and wear deodorant, and she wants to add shaving to that? She says the reason my DSD needs to shave is she stinks. Well, she doesn't shower like she should!

She hasn't started her period, is super small for her age (was born 1 lb. 5 oz. and now wears size 7) and only has "like 5 hairs".

I am just wondering if DH and I are way off base thinking that she needs to wait to shave until she can at least remember to shower everyday.

I don't have a tween, but I was in 5th grade when I started to shave. I had very hairy legs and pits and was getting teased. To the point where I would cry everyday, so my mom let me.

I think it just depends on the child.

It sounds to me like she can wait. I am not introducing that to Julia until she shows signs she cares about her appearance.

Since shaving would be her responsibility, I say wait until she shows some interest in it. Of she's interested in it, she's more likely to do it and keep it up.
