blood in our cats urine
So i'm totally freaking out, one of our cats has blood in his urine. I found it yesterday (last night) and actually thought he cut paw or something. There were light blood paw prints on the floor..then there were 3 small (about 1/2in diameter) pools of blood in the bath tub. I checked his paws and they we're fine, but he had some blood streaks on his lower belly. So I wiped it off and there was nothing. Then I check out his private area. It was "crusty" ish and sorta crystallized. When I checked this morning it always looks like he's got a few specs of sand near there. (we use yesterdays news or feline pine which neither are sandy) last night he went to the bathroom multiple times in an hour and I was in there one of the times and checked to see if I could see blood but it looked like nothing came out. Then I found some urine on the floor that had blood in it. And again this morning. So I'm taking him to the VET at 4pm. Please send good thoughts his way. I've FREAKING OUT that we'll have to put him down or something.
I googled it and it seems the worst case it could be cancer of the kidneys or urethra. I'm hoping its one of the many other options like stones or an infection that can be cleared up with antibiotics.

Oh and if he is in pain we can't really hear him meow, we has a VERY low meow..that was one of the things they said to check for when they are going or trying to pee

Sounds like a kidney infection or something. Could he be dehydrated as well? Poor kitty. Sending prayers his way. Let us know how it works out.

turns out he's okay. He said sometimes it hard to diagnose exactly whats wrong. So he gave him some antibiotics and said if he doesn't improve by Thursday to bring him in again.

Awww, poor kitty! Keep us updated.

Sounds like he has crystals in his bladder, which definitely requires a visit to the vet. My old cat had it happen a long time ago - it was scary.
Cats sometimes get crystal build up in their urine, which causes this problem and it needs to be treated. They can cause a full blockage, which can be fatal to them. Once he's healthy, you can treat it with a special urinary tract heath food and it'll be fine.

Keep a close eye on him, not to scare you but my bf just lost her cat due to an undiagnosed UTI. She had the cat in the vets office at least 3 times that I know of as well as a couple of phone calls. They kept telling her it was his hip (which I am sure was some of it). One day about 2 weeks ago he wouldnt walk or anything, he was just laying and meowing in pain. Her DH took the cat to the vet immediately when they found him like that and the cat didnt make it. It is a very sad situation.

How is your kitty doing, Kate?

I hope your cat is doing well. My friend's cat just had blood in her urine. Turns out she had stones of some sort - she was able to pass most of the small ones, but their are three big ones still and surgery is $5,000!! CRAZY!!

He's MUCH better. He's not going to the bathroom every 32 seconds. And there is no more blood in his urine. I'm so glad it seems the antibiotics had helped.

I'm bringing him back in today b/c the last 3 days he's had blood in his urine again. I really hope this is something they can fix (cheaply). The only hope I have is its not drops of blood like last time, this time its fully mixed in with the urine.

Poor kitty.
I hope he gets better soon!

So they gave him a shot of antibiotics..said that should knock it out of his system, and he's positive its a urinary tract infection...thank god b/c I thought we'd have to put him to sleep.

I'm glad they diagnosed it for sure. I hope he's feeling better now! Those are so uncomfortable. Kitty hugs coming his way!!!
