    If you ever wonder what our kids feel like...

    ... when they have an ear infection, let's just say it SUCKS. I've been on antibiotics for 3 days, and I'm still in so much pain that I'm in tears sitting here. I just had to call MIL to have her come and stay with the kids so I can go back to urgent care. I was going to wait until tomorrow morning, because I have to take Andrew to our family dr for pre-op for his tubes (ironically enough) but I just can't wait. I can't go through another night like this. I have no idea what he's going to be able to do for me, but I'm desperate. Even Oxycodone (left over from my c/s with Joshua) isn't helping. I've tried warm compresses, it just hurts more, and I'm afraid to put anything (drops) in my ear because it's so painful I'm afraid it will rupture.

    I have so much more sympathy for kids now. I don't know how they're so resilient with this

    I know! I got a bad case of swimmers ear in 2002 and it was the worst pain ever. I have a sensitivity to narcotic pain meds (read: I throw them up and they make me feel worse), so they had to give me numbing ear drops. That took the edge off, but it still hurt like @%#*! I hope you get relief soon!

    Ear aches are the worst pain!!! I had a double ear infection AND a sinus infection at the same time and it was SOO PAINFUL!!! I slept sitting up in my recliner, even reclining the pressure was too much. I hope they are able to help you. Hugs!!

    As it turns out, now the ear canal is infected, too. The doctor is baffled how that happened since I've been on Biaxin since Monday, but he said that it was definitely not infected when he saw me before. So now I have ear drops, along with the Biaxin. He told me for the next 24hrs to just use the drops as often as possible. I guess it's pretty bad

    Aw...Payton feels your pain, he has a nasty ear infection too. Dr gave him the numbing drops to use in between the mortin doses. The last time he had an ear infection it was to the point the dr told us it may ruture but that would actually help it to heal faster. Kicker is this time around it is the other ear that is infected. Payton says to take a hot bath..lol He says it made his ear feel better to lay in the water (not sure if actually does but it might)

    That really stinks!! My mom still gets ear infections - they usually end up having to give her a shot right there in the office since the longer antibiotics don't seem to clear the infection

    i can't remember my last ear infection but i had some ear pain a while back and was POSITIVE it was infected only to be told it was not!!! turns out my ear buds from my ipod gave me a little shock on the treadmil one day and caused the issue. the dr gave me ear drops for the pain but it only made it worse.... when i stoped using them 2 weeks of pain and it was all better.

    that was the worst pain i remember ever having and i went def once from an ear infection as a kid in kindergarten and the ipod pain was worse. took me a LOOOONG time to put any thing in my ears like that again. really bad!

    hope you get some relief soon

    It also makes you wonder about the kids who don't have any pain. My oldest DS gets the typical pain/fever when he gets ear infections. My youngest 2 don't. I have taken Samantha in for a well-baby check-up and she was recovering from a common cold. The Dr looked in her ears and was like, "how is she feeling, is she sleeping, fever, pain, etc....." Nope she is acting just fine. She had a severe double ear infection. This has happened twice. And my 2nd DS has complained his ear was hurting before going to bed (not a ton, but just bothering him), he wakes up the next morning and we discover his ear drum has ruptured.

    How can it not bother them and Samantha---- I just don't get it, no pain, fever, crankiness???

    The main way that I know my kids have EIs is when they stop sleeping. They don't pull on their ears, and are generally happy enough during the day, it's just at night that the pain gets worse. And I have to admit, mine is much worse at night, too. I think the drops are working, though! But I saw the family dr today and she said she assumed my eardrum must have ruptured because that's the only way that the outer ear would get infected AFTER the middle ear (and when I was already on mega antibiotics) but that she couldn't even SEE my eardrum because the ear canal is so swollen!

    I am doing better. It still sometimes gets a little achy, but compared the agony of last week, it's nothing. I have 2 more doses of Biaxin, and I'm going to keep using the ear drops for another day or two, just to be sure it's better, but I think it's finally better. Now I can focus on worrying about Andrew's tubes on Tuesday (eek!)
